Marrakech guided tour
One of the most impressive sights of Marrakech: the Koutoubia is one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the Western Muslim world. Suminarete 78 m high is a work of Hispanic-Moorish art very similar to that of Giralda in Seville. The Bahia Palace was built at the end of the 19th century in a two-acre garden. It is a random arrangement of secret luxury apartments with interior patios.
For seven years, about a thousand artisans from the Fez region worked in this palace. The only sections open to the public are the apartments of the Sultan’s favorite concubine, the council chamber (with tiled walls and lighted cedar ceilings) and the large central courtyard (paved with marble and decorated with tiles and fountains). Saadi tombs, with their delicate decorations and pure architectural lines, are considered by many to be a beautiful feat of architecture. They were first built to house the tombs of Sultan Saadi, Ahmed el Mansour. In 1591 the first “koubba” (the dome at the top of a mosque) of this cemetery was built south of the Casbah.
At the base of the Atlas Mountains are the Menara Gardens. With an area of 250 acres and full of olive trees, the gardens surround a large central lake dating from the twelfth century and is fed by a network of irrigation canals. At the water’s edge is a small Saadia pavilion. With the snow-capped peaks in the background, this is an impressive sight when night falls and the golden rays of the sunset impact the mountains.
The Zagora desert in Morocco is small and you will not be able to see high dunes as seen in the photographs. If this is what you are looking for, we recommend you take our 3-day tour to the Merzouga desert.
